You’ve been through all the fad diets because they work, right?? No. Temporary diets lead to temporary results which is why I do not promote calorie counting, points, shakes or fad diets. I want to help you foster a positive relationship with food. I’ve been in the yo-yo diet situation & tried so many different diets hoping for one of them to tell me what to eat to make me feel better forever, but they were all a temporary fix. (Does this situation sound familar?) I finally realized what does work & that’s clean eating, positive mindsets, learning to listen to your body & the willingness to make changes to your current habits.
My negative relationship with food started as a child. I was overweight & desserts after every meal & cookies or coffee cake for breakfast were the norm (hello Pennsylvania Dutch culture!). Pair that with being told about “good” & “bad” foods got confusing. (How can cake be “bad” but I’m eating it for breakfast?) Besides good food choices being a struggle, at 17 I was told I’d be on medication for the rest of my life due to the diagnosis of hypothyroidism & even with medication this lead to difficulty with weight loss for many years – especially in college when my unhealthy food habits reappeared. In my mid 20s I decided to not refill that medication, took healing into my own hands by making small changes over time, got off the medication by changing my diet & exercise habits.
The guesswork of what to eat will be taken away because you’re eating real food! We’ll set realistic goals, make incremental changes as needed to help you reach those goals, you’ll find meaningful ways to find balance, learn how to listen to your body & learn to shop for & prepare foods that are best for your body. Long-term habits will be formed so you won’t ever have to try the next big diet trend again. You’ll feel better, your clothes will fit better, you’ll know how to prepare healthy foods, sleep will improve & you’ll have more energy. It’s true!
